This free software is designed to speed up your pandemic and seasonal flu vaccination campaign. Clinical staff can create a fully Read-coded entry in your medical record in seconds!

Note: Not all EMIS LV installations are equal. You may have to train FluVac to recognise your system. Follow the instructions below. If you get an error message saying that you have to go to the AP screen then see note here

3. Select the vaccine you are giving using the coloured tabs at the top of the screen. You can choose to record entries relating to either type of pandemic influenza vaccine (Pandemrix or Celvapan) or the current Seasonal Influenza vaccine.

4. Input the required data (vaccine batch number is required and you can also add expiry date and injection site if you wish). Also select the name of the vaccine and whether this is the first or second vaccination.

5. The data you input is stored by FluVac2009 between sessions to save further unnecessary typing.

The software will automatically go into your MR screen, enter the required data in the immunisation section of the medical record, and then return to your appointments screen. All you have to do then is select the next patient.

Interestingly from a programmer's point of view, but frustratingly from a user's point of view, Emis LV installations can vary from machine to machine, even within the same surgery.

Frankly, I haven't a clue why. But, if FluVac2011 doesn't work after you've downloaded it, you'll probably get an error message telling you to go to the AP screen.

If this happens, FluVac2011 can be made to explore your Emis setup and discover how it needs to configure itself in order to work properly.

1. Make sure that Emis is running, and that the Emis main menu screen is showing. In other words, go to any Emis prompt and keep on pressing <Esc> until nothing happens. You are then at the Emis main menu screen.

New Features

This software is work in process I will continually try to improve it. This is a list of new features, when they were added and how they enhance the product.

1. 09.59 on Tuesday 3rd November 2009

Modified the software to allow an entry to be made in Consultation Mode. Thanks to Dr Chris Burnham for suggesting this and testing it out. This version now remembers the contents of settings in between sessions.

2. 07.59 on Friday 6th November 2009

User is now warned not to use mouse or keyboard while program is running.

3. 11.00 on Saturday 7th November 2009

Added a "Close" button to the software.
Improvements made to making entries while in consultation mode. Now able to do this even if user had been editing and entry and had forgotten to press ENTER.

4. 10.00pm Monday 9th November 2009

Added facility to record Seasonal Influenza immunisation. Changed the interface to make it more intuitive to use. Software is now colour-coded to make it easier to see which vaccine is being administered.
Added facility to collapse FluVac2009 window so that it tucks away at the top of the taskbar.

5. 14.49 Monday 9th November 2009

Injection site can now be selected from drop-down list of common sites (left deltoid, right deltoid, left buttock, left thigh, right thigh, right buttock). However user can type any other sites in if needed.

6. 16.36 Monday 9th November 2009

Added code to prevent user opening multiple instances of FluVac2009. User is notified.

7. 13.16 Tuesday 10th November 2009

Added code to slide collapsed FluVac2009 window to the left of the screen so that it is not obscured by the EMIS QOF notification window.

8. 9.48 Wednesday 11th November 2009

Improved code for when user attempts to run multiple instances of FluVac2009. If this is attempted the user is no longer notified, the original copy is restored and screen position adjusted to default setting.

9. 11.29 on Wednesday 18th November

EMIS LV now automatically takes keyboard focus when FluVac2009 window is collapsed down, or after it is used to make an entry in the electronic medical record.

10. 15.30 on Tuesday 27th September

Added "Discovery Mode" to allow FluVac2011 to work with non-standard Emis LV configurations.

Bug Fixes

Alas, all the works of Man are imperfect and none more so than software! This is a list of all the bugs which have been spotted and when they were corrected.

The version you download will always have the latest bug corrections and features.

software adjusted to take into account any major alerts displayed when moving from appointments screen into the medical record. Previous versions would halt at this point. This version now alerts the user and gives them the option to proceed or cancel with the entry in the medical notes.

4. 11.26 on Friday 6th November 2009:

bug fix to allow for situation when brief summary is displayed on user's terminal.

5. 11.00 on Saturday 7th November 2009

bug fix to overcome problem noted with setting default place of consultation. Code re-written for this.
FluVac2009 is supposed to always stay on top of the EMIS window but didn't always do this consistently. Now fixed.
Inadvertently pressing the escape key would close the application down. Now fixed.

Some bug-fixes relating to recording data when you are not able to give vaccine.

7. 18:39 Tuesday 10th November 2009

Bug fix. If the Caps Lock key was on, under some circumstances the software would fail. Added code to check the Caps Lock key state, turn it off and restore it at end of entry.

Minor code adjustments to improve patchy window updating when operating.

9. 13:08 on Monday 16th November 2009

Rectified problem of collapsed window popping up when not needed when switching between applications. The window now ONLY pops up if the upwardly-pointing arrow on the application title bar is clicked by the user.

10. 11:17 on Tuesday 17th November

Very minor problem reported relating to failure of FluVac2009 to save settings correctly under some circumstances, especially when window was collapsing. Also it was possible for the window controls to be altered inappropriately when the window was collapsed using the keyboard. Rectified and new version posted to website.

11. 8.57 on Thursday 19th November 2009

Major fault found entering pandemic influenza vaccine under the MR screen which causes software to fail at this point. Rectified. New code posted to wbsite.
