Used by UK Transplant
The only Special Health Authority within the UK National Health Service with a UK-wide remit, its role is to ensure that donated organs are matched and allocated in a fair and unbiased way.
Matching, particularly in the case of kidneys, is so important that donation and allocation needs to be organized nationally.
This requires the assistance of a dedicated Computing and Information Technology team who have to run a 24 hour on-call service. The UK Transplant Computing and IT department use Duty Schedule Assistant to organize their on-call duty schedule (rota).
“It is has made a massive impact on my job, and significantly reduced the amount of headache I had to go through every six months creating new rotas. Also has helped considerably when people want to swap. The reports on fairness are invaluable as it stops any squabbles about ‘his doing less than me etc’. Bank Holidays are the main issue there. Overall an excellent tool and greatly appreciated.”

Efficient rostering for patient care
St Luke's doctors are able to plan and generate
their monthly on-call schedules more efficiently now, thanks to Duty Schedule
Assistant software donated by a company based in United Kingdom, Calendrica.
Gone are the frustrating days when a clipboard and a pencil were passed among
doctors to fill in their duty schedule. Tedious manual calculation of doctors'
allowances is also no longer a hassle.
"After trying more than 20 softwares, Calendrica's Duty Schedule Assistant
software was finally selected," said Medical Officer Dr Kevin Awyong, who was
tasked with the search for the software in 2002. "I am impressed by the simple
and easy to use interface and its features that matched most of our
requirements. We are now able to plan doctors' on-call schedule with minimal
fuss and calculate doctors' allowances more accurately."
